Studies of Barriers to Technology Acceptance

The increased use of technology, such as robotics and computers, in rehabilitation therapies as well as interest in evidence-based practice has increased over time. Controlled studies have been conducted to determine the efficacy of these advances in producing positive outcomes, but to obtain information on their effectiveness, these techniques need to be translated into clinical practice. Successful transitions no doubt depend on how well these technologies are used in practice. If therapists or patients are resistant to these technologies or encounter obstacles to their adoption, they won't be used or will be used inefficiently. Reducing barriers to acceptance and use should further successful implementation of these advances. This study seeks to examine barriers to the acceptance and use of new technologies and propose solutions to overcome them.
